Bush Walking
Beechworth is surrounded by acres of spectacular National and State forest land:
Beechworth Historic Park, Stanley State Forest, and Chiltern Mt Pilot National Park. The tranquil beauty of eucalyptus and native cypress forests, winding creeks, steep gullies and rugged granite outcrops provide an exciting opportunity to explore natural and historical attractions close to the town.
We’ve thought very carefully about how you’re going to experience everything we’ve
kept for you. So, we’ve created some exciting drives, gentle bike and walking tracks, all of which criss-cross the Gorge area on the northern side of the town.
Beechworth Historic Park
The walks connect fascinating sites that tell our adventure story about the search for
gold: the Powder Magazine, the Spring Creek Cascades, The Precipice, Reids Creek
Goldfields, Woolshed Falls, Ingrams Rock, and Fiddes Granite Quarry – all made themore enjoyable by delicious local produce and wineries along the way!
The rugged landscapes of this park provide opportunities to explore natural and historical features close to the historic township of Beechworth.
Chiltern-Mt Pilot National-Woolshed Falls Historic Walk
Today there is little at Woolshed to suggest that it was once the centre of one of the richest goldfields in victoria. A five minute drive north from Beechworth provides theopportunity to view the falls, have a picnic or take a self-guided walk around the alluvial gold workings. The falls are spectacular after heavy rainfalls.
Chiltern-Mt pilot National Park-Visitor Guide
This 21,565ha park is located between Beechworth and the low hills surrounding Chiltern and includes the striking Mt Pilot Range and Woolshed Falls. It protects a Box-Ironbark forest that contains a diverse range of natural and historic landscapes.
The White Box Walking Track will introduce you to some of the natural and historical features of the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park. The 8.5 kilometre track will take about two to three hours to complete. Numbered posts along the track correspond these notes.
