Beechworth Secondary College presents its annual school production for 2010 –
“High School Spoofical”
Performance Dates:
Thurs Sep 9th
Fri 10th Sept
Sat 11th Sept
Time: 8pm at Beechworth Memorial Hall.
This year’s School Production is well under way with the cast selected and rehearsing furiously. Over 100 students have important roles in the show. The amount of talent discovered in year 7 this year, is really exciting and will add so much to the performance.
About the show
The show invites us to Sweet Valley High, a perfect world of perfect teens.
It takes its cue from the sugary sweet, blockbusting extravaganza, High School Musical with satirical homage paid to all Disney teen movies– where real world problems such as pimples and puberty are seemingly non-existent. This all American High school is full of every clique imaginable – Jocks, Cheerleaders, Egg heads, Emos, Homies and even Redneck Yokels! The teachers are full of surprises, as well but are ‘perfectly’ lead by the ‘perfect’ Principal Scribble (Sam Matthews). Two squeaky clean, spotless little angels, Zak Teflon (Daniel Greene) and Vanessa Huggins, (Courtney Webster and Lili Donaldson) are planning to unleash their extraordinary talents upon the high school musical. But when the Red headed Aussi exchange student, Rufus, (Jed Enslow) arrives on campus, things become terribly undisneyfied. The dastardly plots and schemes based on love and jealousy, go very awry. Even Ms Crackpot the Drama teacher (Melanie Clark) cannot control her Thespian charges Mary K (Sarah Lockwood) and Ashton (Aidan Warne). With an upcoming visit from the American President, can egghead Scarlett, (Tatiana Rouch) save the day and recapture the Disney Spirit? It’s a musical satire filled with romance, cheek, magic and god awful singing!
Three Choirs Festival
Date: 11-12 September 2010
Venue: Wangratta High School (Saturday 11th) and Wodonga Civic Centre (Sunday 12th)
On the weekend of September 11 – 12, the Three Choirs Festival will celebrate 25 years of choral singing in the Northeast with concerts in Wangaratta and Wodonga. The Three Choirs Festival is a collaboration of the three principal choirs of Albury, Beechworth and Wangaratta, amalgamating biennially to present large-scale musical works that are rarely, if ever, presented to audiences in regional Australia. This year, 2010, is the Silver Anniversary of the Festival. Offered are the perennial favourite, Carol Orff’s Carmina Burana, and the regional première of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. These highly rhythmical works are complemented by Handel’s Zadok the Priest. Concert goers will hear not only the massed vocal forces that these works demand, but also a full battery of percussion instruments and two pianos. Members of the Murray Conservatorium Orchestra join the choirs in the performance of Zadok the Priest. Albury’s Murray Conservatorium Choir, the Beechworth Singers and the Wangaratta Choristers welcome audiences to this splendid event, confident that the exhilarating music experienced will stay with them for a long some.
This concert is to be held on Saturday, September 11th at 2:30 p.m. at the Wangaratta High School Performing Arts Centre (Edwards Street) and Sunday, September 12th at 2:30 p.m. at the Wodonga Civic Centre.
Tickets are $30, $25 with concession, $5 students and under 12 free. They are available at:
