Tour requires a minimum of 4 people
Stroll through the public gardens of Beechworth and explore its eventful past and dynamic present through its evolving botanical heritage. Visit four public gardens and discover the creators, people and plants that reflect an early vision for the City of the Hills, which began in the 1850s and continues today. Beginning at the formal pleasure gardens of the Town Hall, we then set out to explore the cultivated wilderness of the Botanical Reserve, now Queen Victoria Park. Next stop is the Lake Sambell Reserve which was created as a result of Beechworths success in the Ideal Town competition of 1928 and is now an important recreational space enjoyed by the whole town. The tour finishes at the Chinese Gardens, an exciting new garden being created as a contemporary landscape to remember the Chinese people who flocked to the rich goldfields of early Beechworth.

'BACKYARD TO FARM GATE' PRODUCTIVE GARDENS TOUR
Visit a range of productive gardens in Beechworth and the district. Meet passionate gardeners who nurture and cherish their plants and are dedicated to producing fruit and vegetables for their own satisfaction and personal use as well as the larger scale growers who grow produce for both markets, local and regional, and their own farm gate sales. Visit gardens ranging from the size of your own backyard to 60 hectares.
See a small intensive cottage garden, a family operated orchard garden with tree ripened fruits, an organic cool climate vineyard and a picturesque productive olive grove. This is your chance to taste their produce, take some home and get to know the people who grow the food you eat. This is also a great way to discover and explore how you can grow your food in your garden whilst savouring the harvest delights of gardens on a larger scale. With climate change and uncertain economic times, see how you too can produce fresh food in your own backyard.
Gardens will be open in all weather conditions. Wear comfortable shoes for walking.Bring wet weather gear in case of rain.Visitors are requested to respect the plants and gardens they visit. |
