Stroll through the public gardens of Beechworth and explore its eventful past and dynamic present through its evolving botanical heritage.
Visit four public gardens and discover the creators,people and plants that reflect an early vision for the City of the Hills, which began in the 1850s and continues today. Beginning at the formal pleasure gardens of the Town Hall, we then set out to explore the cultivated wilderness of the Botanical Reserve, now Queen Victoria Park.
Next stop is the Lake Sambell Reserve which was created as a result of Beechworths success in the Ideal Town competition of 1928 and is now an important recreational space enjoyed by the whole town.
The tour finishes at the Chinese Gardens, an exciting new garden being created as a contemporary landscape to remember the Chinese people who flocked to the rich goldfields of early Beechworth.
