    10:30am: Beechworth Gold: Shoeing of the horse with Golden Horseshoes: Historic & Cultural Precinct Ford Street
    In November 1855, Daniel Cameron, representing the Ovens electorate, triumphantly rode a horse shod with gold horseshoes through the main streets of Beechworth.
    When not in use, the golden horseshoes can be viewed at Beechworth Gold, cnr Camp & Ford Streets

    12.30pm: Home among the Gum Trees: - Ford Street
    Join Lazy Harry along the parade route for Beechworth first attempt at the longest line of people performing Home among the Gum Trees with all the actions come on, all together now

    1pm: The Grand Parade – Ford Street
    Daniel Cameron’s famous ride through town will be re-enacted once more as the horse with the golden shoes leads the Grand Parade Featuring dozens of colourful, historical floats with entries all vying for the Beechworth Bakery Parade Trophy.
    2009 winner was Beechworth Ghost Tours -“Ghost Busters” will hand over to this year’s winner in the roundabout at approx: 2.15 pm

    10am – 4pm: Camp Street Food Court
    Don’t miss our sensational Food Court, right in the heart of town. Grab a bite to eat from our variety of vendors or businesses. Sit down, relax and enjoy the music by Nick Barker and Lee Rosser of Blank Vault from 10.00am-1.00pm

    Ching Ming Festival or Pure Brightness Day is held on the 4th April each year to pay respect to the departed spirits by offering Food and Prayers. We take this opportunity to clean around the footstones

    Beechworth Historic & Cultural Precinct:

  • Echoes of History can be heard by viewing the 15min documentary in the Town Hall. Just pop in and ask the friendly staff at the Visitors Information Centre and purchase your precinct ticket to visit the Historic buildings and hear the voices of today. Tell the story of yesterday on how these buildings were used in the 1850’s.
  • Visit the Historic Courthouse, Telegraph Station, Sub Treasury, Chinese Cultural Centre and the Robert O’Hara Burke Museum .Powder Magazine or take one of the daily Walking Tours.

    Thousands of visitors and holidaymakers descended on Beechworth during the Easter long weekend to enjoy the 2009 Golden Horseshoes Festival.

    The shoeing of the horse with real gold shoes and the Grand Parade again proved crowd favourites. This years winner of the Beechworth Bakery Perpetual Trophy for Best Float was won by Beechworth Ghost Tours.

    Introduction & Background
    Daniel Cameron, {a boss} was elected member for the Ovens, in 1855, the men of the Woolshed subscribed his qualifications in an hour, and put shoes of solid gold on the horse, which he rode in procession from Woolshed-Beechworth to attend the official declaration of his return {William Kelly Life In Victoria 1852- }

    A grand parade, which included ‘William {“Tinker”} Browns Circus Band’, 80 men on horseback and many men on foot, made its way through Beechworth.

    Great Attraction
    Under the immediate patronage of Daniel Cameron, Esq., the gold-diggers duly elected member of the Legislative Council of Victoria and the acting committee who so nobly supported this gentleman in his election.
    For this occasion Beechworth Gold has allowed the horse to be shod with Pure Gold shoes.
    Which will lead the Grand Parade, which must been seen to be believed and appreciated, this being the greatest feature In equestrianism ever produced in Europe or in this colony.

    Raymond will than appear on his Favourite HORSE Castor, shod with pure gold, and go through his surprising tricks which will really astonish all beholders
